PotashCorp Launches USD 1 mln Matching Gift Challenge
OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2012. To mark the season of giving, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today launched a USD 1,000,000 matching gift challenge to support Saskatchewan’s food banks.
Wayne Brownlee, PotashCorp’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, kicked off the campaign at the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre, explaining PotashCorp will match every dollar donated to food banks in Saskatchewan through January 15, 2013 up to a maximum of USD 1 million.
“At PotashCorp, we’re focused on the challenge of feeding the world, but everyone can help feed their neighbours, especially during the holiday season,” Brownlee said. “By matching every dollar donated to Saskatchewan food banks, we can help these important organizations bring comfort to those in need. “We’re challenging our Saskatchewan neighbours and communities to help double donations and address the issue of hunger here at home.”
The funds raised through the challenge will help food banks across the province buy supplies, restock shelves and support Saskatchewan’s vulnerable citizens.
“At our food bank, we see people and families in need year-round. PotashCorp’s matching gift challenge not only helps us during a time of year when people need extra comfort, but also stocks our warehouse after the holiday season is over,” said Laurie O’Connor, Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. “We hope people across Saskatchewan take PotashCorp up on its challenge and help feed people across the province.”
PotashCorp’s 2011 matching gift campaign in support of Saskatchewan food banks helped to raise more than USD 2 million, nourishing hungry families and restocking shelves at 19 food banks and nine affiliated locations across the province.
