OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2012. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has instructed to prepare a draft amendment to the national legislation to implement the mechanism of attraction of foreign experts in the field of medicine as a surgical operation and to the process of practical training of young professionals in Ukraine. This was started by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov at a meeting with experts in the field of health care.

According to the PM, this will solve the problem of shortage of surgeons in Ukraine.

Today there are 425 cardiac surgeons in Ukraine, of which only 60 operate by themselves. "It struck me that we have a total of 60 surgeons. And 30 of them are concentrated in the Institute named after Amosov", Mykola Azarov said. According to him, this situation should be corrected immediately, because Ukraine needs more cardiac surgeons. "Appropriate training will take 2-3 years. Therefore, it must be done immediately", Mykola Azarov said.

According to the Government, this will solve the problem of shortage of doctors operating in Ukraine.

He stressed that the situation with training for cardiac surgery can be changed by creating the appropriate department in each medical university of the country. Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Health, together with representatives of the medical school and the Academy of Medical Sciences to study the issue and propose a draft decision.
