Gazprom Commissions Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Unit
OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2012. Saint Petersburg hosted today celebrations devoted to commissioning of a new CCGT-450 combined cycle gas turbine unit at the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP.
Taking part in the events were Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of Saint Petersburg, Kirill Seleznev, Member of the Gazprom Management Committee, Denis Fyodorov, Director General of Gazprom Energoholding and Andrey Filippov, Director General of TGC-1.
CCGT-450 of the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP is the third (after commissioning of CCGT-450 at the Yuzhnaya CHPP and two CCGT-180 at the Pervomaiskaya CHPP) large-scale project for building state-of-the-art combined cycle gas turbine units implemented by Gazprom over the recent years in Saint Petersburg.
Commissioning of the new gas turbine unit at the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP considerably increased the reliability and quality of heat supplies to the city's southeast and secured electricity and heat reserves for future demands of the adjacent areas under development. Besides, the new gas turbine unit reduces the load on substations of the 'energy ring', thus increasing the reliability of the city power network.
“Today's event is the manifestation of another considerable contribution made by Gazprom to the development of Saint Petersburg power infrastructure. This work provides for state-of-the-art technologies adoption which allow improving power and heat generation along with mitigating environmental impacts. It should be mentioned that the new gas turbine unit has been constructed using the equipment of domestic mechanical engineers, including that manufactured at Saint Petersburg production facilities.
Gazprom has confirmed its status of the most reliable investor into the Russian power industry again: on commissioning the CCGT-450 gas turbine unit at the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP, we have already fulfilled half of the obligations on new capacities commissioning, which our Company assumed when engaging in the power industry,” Alexey Miller stressed.
Background
The Pravoberezhnaya CHPP is a combined heat and power plant owned by TGC-1 (Gazprom Energoholding, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, is the controlling shareholder of the company). The plant supplies energy to the industrial facilities, residential and municipal buildings of the Nevsky and Krasnogvardeisky districts of Saint-Petersburg with the population of some 700 thousand people. The produced power is supplied to the Unified Power System of Russia.
Being the company's newest plant, the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP is the successor of the Krasny Octyabr CHPP-5 (1922–2010), the first plant built under the action plan developed by the State Commission for Electrification of Russia. The first combined cycle gas turbine unit (180 MW) was commissioned in 2006. Construction of the second 450 MW gas turbine unit on the basis of the combined cycle technology was launched in 2008. The CCGT-450 unit at the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP is the subject of the capacity supply agreements with TGC-1.
The main equipment of the gas turbine unit was produced in Russia. The steam turbine was produced by the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (Power Machines). The generators were produced by the Electrosila Plant (Power Machines), gas turbines – by the Siemens – Power Machines consortium (production base in Saint Petersburg). The waste heat recovery units were produced by the Podolsk Machine Building Plant.
Upon commissioning of the new CCGT unit, Pravoberezhnaya CHPP capacity rose to 630 MW and its installed heat capacity – to 1,283 Gcal per hour.
As part of the Capacity Supply Agreement for the period until 2017, Gazprom's power generating assets (TGC-1, Mosenergo , WGC-2 ) have an obligation to provide
some 9 GW in total (while under the CSA, all investors of the Russian power industry have an obligation to produce some 30 GW). Taking into account the capacity of CCGT-450 at the Pravoberezhnaya CHPP, the total commissioning volume of Gazprom Group's power generating assets has already reached 4.5 GW under the CSA only.
