OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2012. During the November holidays from 31 October to 6 November 2012, the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, carried 2.097 million passengers on Russia’s railway network, which is 2.1% more than in the same period in 2011 year, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.    

The holiday period saw 442,000 passengers depart from Moscow’s railway stations, 7.4% more than last year. In addition, 160,000 people embarked on long distance journeys from railway stations on the St. Petersburg transport hub, an increase of 4.8% on last year.

Since in 2012 the holidays fell on the 3, 4 and 5 November, the network experienced peak traffic on the 2 and 5 November.

On 2 November 2012, Federal Passenger Company trains carried 373,900 passengers, 1.8% more than on 3 November 2011, the peak departure date for passengers last year.

In order to meet fully the demand for transport during the holidays, the Federal Passenger Company monitored the availability of seats on a daily basis and laid on 122 additional trains which made an extra 156 journeys, up from 112 more trains and 150 services in 2011.

As a result, the number of seats and berths on sale to passengers increased across the railway network by 2.7% compared to 2011 and from Moscow railway stations by more than 11%.
