Ukraine Implements Reforms in Energy Sector
OREANDA-NEWS. November 21, 2012. Ukraine adapts its energy legislation to EU legislation and actively cooperates with international financial institutions to attract investment for the construction and development of infrastructure facilities of the fuel and energy complex. This was started by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko on air of the Inter TV channel.
"From February of last year, we are a member of full standing of the European Energy Community and we liberalize the gas market and electricity market", - Yuriy Boyko said.
However, he stressed that within the reform of the energy sector of the economy we should have a very balanced approach to solve socially sensitive issues, such as tariff and subsidy systems.
"The President clearly said on this issue that we are not going to shift the increase in the cost of gas on the shoulders of people. So it will be very cautious approach to reforms that affect people", the Minister said.
Yuriy Boyko said that Ukraine today is attracting European financial institutions to implement important energy projects.
"Last year, we received about USD 2 billion. Today we are implementing 10 major energy projects. Commencing from the hydroelectric plant - the Dniester PSP and finishing plant for the fabrication of nuclear fuel, which will give us independence in the nuclear field", Yuriy Boyko said.
The Minister said that next year the implementation of these projects in the energy sector will create an additional 50000 jobs.
