KEGOC Completed Moinak Electricity Transmission Project
OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2012. On 9 November 2012, KEGOC completed the implementation of the Moinak Electricity Transmission Project.
This project was implemented by the System Operator of the Kazakhstan UPS within the State programme for accelerated industrial and innovative development for 2010–2014.
The commissioning of the new 220 kV transmission line from the Moinak hydro power plant (HPP) to the Robot substation (228 km) and the extension of the 220 kV Robot substation will enable efficient use of Moinak HPP’s capacity and will improve the reliability of the electricity supply in the Almaty region.
Phase 1 of the project was commissioned in October 2011; this phase covered the rehabilitation of the Shelek substation and construction of the 220 kV transmission line from the Moinak HPP to the Shelek substation (98 km).
Implementation of the project has created 230 new jobs; it has used up-to-date designs, and materials and equipment from domestic manufacturers have been widely used during construction.
The total cost of the Moinak Electricity Transmission Project is KZT10.8 billion. Financing was provided by the World Bank with a sovereign guarantee and by KEGOC.
