VIA Provided Service to Record-Breaking Number of Passengers
OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2012. Vilnius International Airport (VIA) provided service to 1.46 m passengers over the period of the aviation summer season of 2012, i.e. 21.3 per cent more than during the same period last year, and achieved the best ever summer season result in the airport’s operation, reported the press-centre of VIA.
The highest results were observed in July: with the highest number of passengers serviced – 236 thousand, and 20 July was marked by a record number of passengers serviced in one day – 9,667. During the aviation summer season the number of passengers grew successfully in terms of tourist and business directions. Moreover, satisfying aircraft loading to new regular flights destinations to Tel Aviv, Reykjavik and Krakow this summer allows expecting even higher popularity of the said destinations next summer.
Over the summer season – from 25 March 2012 to 27 October 2012 – 18.8 thousand flights were performed. This number grew by 7 per cent compared to the summer season last year. Over the said period the most popular destinations included Frankfurt, London, Copenhagen, Riga, Helsinki, Milan, Dublin, and Antalya. The highest number of passengers over the summer season was carried by airlines Wizzair, Ryanair, Small Planet Airlines, Lufthansa, AirBaltic, Scandinavian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Finnair.
As of 28 October 2012 through to 30 March 2013 the flights shall be performed according to the aviation winter season schedule. Current winter season schedule, compared to the summer schedule, introduces 7 new routes. This week Ryanair launches flights to and from Brussels (Charleroi), Leeds (Bradford), Liverpool, Luton, Cork and Oslo (Rygge) and as of mid-March – to Dusseldorf (Weeze).
During the aviation winter season of 2012–2013 Vilnius International Airport shall be offering direct flights by 44 regular routes.
