ORLEN Lietuva Implements Automated Process Control Systems
OREANDA-NEWS. November 15, 2012. ORLEN Lietuva started a new stage of implementation of automated process control systems. Planned investments will help to ensure safe, reliable and uninterrupted operation of process units, reported the press-centre of ORLEN Lietuva.
This week ORLEN Lietuva has signed the agreement with contractors to implement a new automatic furnace ignition system. Automatic ignition system in case of contingency will shut off the furnace and thus increase production security. Planned implementation of the system is scheduled during Refinery maintenance shutdown in spring 2013.
The latest project – Wireless Automated Control System was implemented during the Turnaround in May-June this year. The biggest advantage of this system is that, in comparison with the cable system installation, its use is about a third cheaper.
Another stage of ORLEN Lietuva’s automation process will be implementation of Distributed Control System (DCS) in Complex LK-2. The installation of new control system is scheduled during the next Turnaround of the Refinery in 2016. As a consequence about 95 % of all Refinery process units will be automated.
The ultimate goal of process automation work at ORLEN Lietuva is to implement an Advanced Process Control (APC) System. It will enable automatic sending of a task to the whole chain of operations based on the required amount of product.
Automation processes at the ORLEN Lietuva have been implemented in few stages. The first investements in improvement of automation in the Refinery were held in 2006–2007.
The refinery automation also includes other energy efficiency projects designed to improve heat exchange processes, extend existing facilities or renounce duplicative equipment.
