Ukrainians Actively Buy Electronics and Clothes on Internet
OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2012. Ukrainian Internet users actively buy electronics and clothes online, however, they tend to pay for their purchases in cash, and only 12% of online shoppers paid for their last online purchase by bank card. Online shoppers actively use Internet auctions and price comparison sites – more than 80% of them have used such resources for the last 12 months. This information is based on the research of online shopping in Ukraine conducted by GfK Ukraine.
The most popular online purchases are electronics and household appliances: 64% of those who did shopping online have bought these very goods for the last 12 months. Moreover, they more actively tend to buy digital devices, accessories and small consumer electronics in online stores, whereas they purchase household appliances, audio-video appliances comparatively less frequently.
Interestingly, clothes ranks second in popularity among online buying (42% of online-shoppers have bought these goods). The third place is shared by the following categories of goods: books and DVDs, cosmetics and perfumes, goods for children. Almost one quarter of online shoppers have bought such goods for the last 12 months.
Half of the online shoppers paid for their last purchase in cash upon receiving the goods from courier. Only 15% online shoppers said they paid by charging money to seller’s bank card, 12% used the card on the web-site of the store, and less than 10% paid by the invoice in a bank (or using Internet banking) or by cash on delivery.
In addition to online stores, online shoppers actively use Internet auctions and price comparison sites: 88% and 85% of online shoppers respectively have used these resources for the last 12 months.
Furthermore, even those who have already made purchases on the Internet pointed out that they are not yet ready to buy certain categories of goods online. The reason for such behaviour varied depending on the category of goods. For example, respondents do not want to buy food products online as they have doubts concerning the quality and freshness of those products, and they trust regular shops more. Shopping for shoes is hindered by the need to try it on, while the desire to try the products and estimate them in person prevents online shoppers from buying cosmetics and perfumes.
