OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2012. To have a new stand-by programme arranged by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Belarus needs to pledge to start a comprehensive package of economic policy measures, IMF mission leader David Hofman told a press-conference.

“We continue discussing with the Belarusian authorities the prospects of a new programme. Negotiations on a possible new program would require agreement among all policy makers—including at the highest level—on a comprehensive policy package that garners sufficient support among the IMF membership,” Hofman said.

At the moment, there are no conditions to start negotiating the terms of a new programme, but the authorities keep working on their policy, the IMF representative said.

Hofman reminded that in May last year the Belarusian government applied to the IMF for a new programme. “As far as we understand, the request is still valid,” Hofman said.
