OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2012. As part of the scheduled readiness procedure for autumn and winter period, the ground service equipment designed for aerodrome activities in different weather conditions was inspected at Pulkovo Airport. The following airport ground service equipment was presented: plough-brushing, rotor and wheeled tractor type equipment, all in all – 43 units.

This year the airport vehicle park has been replenished by six unique multipurpose Vammas PSB 5500H snow-cleaning machines, which are specially designed for servicing the runways and taxi ways at airports in winter season. Schmidt ASP 45, which is the only machine in Russia, has been purchased to spread anti-icing fluid and has spray width of 45 meters. The other unique equipment is the best world’s multipurpose Skoda Octavia-mounted continuous friction measuring equipment (CFME) designed for automated measuring of friction values on the runway and for measuring of chemical agent concentration. In total, it cost 312 million 200 thousand rubles to purchase the airport equipment this year.

Sergei Emdin, CEO of Northern Capital Gateway, LLC says: “In addition to the construction of a new, state-of-art terminal, special attention is paid to technical upgrading and equipping of all airport services with advanced machineries. The new airport ground service equipment will reduce the time needed for cleaning of the runways in winter from 24 to 10 minutes, which is under increasing intensity of flights, will ensure a smooth operation of the airport when handling arriving and departing aircrafts, regardless of the weather conditions and significantly reduce the risk of accidents at the airport”.
