Search and Rescue Drill Held at Pulkovo
OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2012. With the onset of autumn –winter navigation period the training of Search and Rescue Team took place at Saint Petersburg Airport. The event was aimed to prepare for well-organized and effective prevention of possible aviation accidents at the area of Pulkovo Airport.
Training legend has it that IL -86 passenger airliner had a nose landing gear default. Aircraft with passengers on board made an emergency landing resulted in fuel spillage, ignition and cabin smoke. Wasted no time Airport Rescue Team and Fire Fighting crew came to an accident site and began extinguishing; further on arrived Ambulance Team, personnel of Saint Petersburg Fire Guard Garrison Branch and Health Center. After mitigation of emergency, rescuers started to administer first aid and to evacuate injured persons. Thus, as a result were trained following issues: arrangement of airport crash-rescue team arrival, rescue work performance and cooperation of airport services with authorities.
Pulkovo Search and Rescue Flight Support Service was set up in 1991. Today that is the most mobile and equipped subdivision of the Airport, having more than 150 employees. Service task is to prevent emergencies, perform damage control, rescue people and equipment. Such drills are carried out at Pulkovo regularly.
