PotashCorp Civic Centre Opens in Sussex, NB
OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2012. The residents of Kings County have a new place to practice active living after the PotashCorp Civic Centre recently opened in Sussex, NB. The year-round wellness facility features a pool, fitness centre, walking/jogging track and community rooms to support the health and wellbeing of the city and nearby communities such as Norton and Sussex Corner.
PotashCorp committed USD 1 million to the construction of the facility in 2010. A number of PotashCorp employees live in the region and work at the PotashCorp New Brunswick potash facility nearby.
The opening of the civic centre is an exciting event for the Kings County area, said Stewart Brown, General Manager of PotashCorp New Brunswick.
“At PotashCorp, we strive to make the communities where our people live and work better places for everyone. Our investment in making the PotashCorp Civic Centre a reality for the people of the Sussex area is already paying off,” said Brown. “We believe this new facility will bring the region together in fitness and community activity.”
The PotashCorp Civic Centre is designed to accommodate people of all ages and abilities. Classes and activities are provided for toddlers, youth, teens, adults and seniors.
This range of offerings makes the facility a true community centre, said PotashCorp Civic Centre General Manager Matt Moore. Just weeks after opening, 500 memberships have already been sold to people in the region – many of them couples or family memberships, meaning close to 1,000 people are using the facility regularly.
“The Sussex region determined long ago that a new fitness facility and community centre was needed in the area. Thanks to our partners like PotashCorp, Kings County has a beautiful new building that offers a range of activities to keep the people of the region active and involved in where they live,” Moore said. “The PotashCorp Civic Centre will be central to Sussex and area for years to come.”
PotashCorp fulfilled its USD 1 million pledge to the project two years ahead of schedule to help bridge a gap in funding.
