OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2012. In October 2012, 90.8 m passengers travelled on the Russian Railways’ network, 3% more than in October 2011. Suburban commuter numbers rose 3.3% to 82 million while at 8.8 million, long-distance passengers were down 0.4%, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Passenger turnover in October 2012 amounted to 11 billion passenger-kilometres, 1.4% more than October 2011.

In the ten months January-October 2012, the Russian Railways’ network carried 883.3 million passengers, up 6.6% compared to January-October 2011, with suburban commuters amounting to 784.4 million, an increase of 7.2%, while long-distance passengers rose 1.7% to 98.9 million.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network since the beginning of 2012 increased by 3.8% compared to last year and amounted to 124.1 billion passenger-kilometres.
