Moldova: Remittances from Abroad Increased by 1,6%
OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2012. According to the National Bank of Moldova, as compared with the sum of USD 1 bln. 055.59 mln. registered in the same period of 2011, it increased by USD 16.55 mln., or1.6%.
The remittances amounted to USD 288,99 mln. in Q1, USD 361,7 mln. in Q2 and USD 421.45 mln. in Q3.
According to NBM, remittances via rapid money transfer systems made up USD 950.51 mln. or 88/7% in January-September, 2012, against USD 920.01 mln. or 87.2% in the same period of the past year. Following Q3, 2012, in the structure of remittances in forex about 38.7% fell to USD, 36.2% to EUR and 25.1% to RUB.
The greatest sum fell to August and made up USD 143.81 mln., the smallest one fell to January and was USD 81.7 mln. According to the National Bank of Moldova, in September, 2011 remittances from aboard in favour of individuals made via banks amounted to USD 134,05 mln., 5.8% or USD 8.3 mln. down against USD 142.35 mln. recorded last September.
The biggest receipts in Moldova come from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, remittances from Moldova’s labour migrants amount to 20% to 30% of GDP of Moldova. The all-time peak of the volume of money transfers to Moldova made in favour of individuals via commercial banks was recorded in 2008 when the sum amounted to USD 1 bln. 660.09 mln. within the year.
