Sberbank Begins Process of Entering CLS International System
OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2012. During the Sibos international conference held in Osaka (Japan), an agreement was reached on starting the process of Sberbank's entering the CLS international system, reported the press-centre of Sberbank.
The CLS system makes it possible to trade 17 major world currencies. The system is based on SWIFT standards and infrastructure and is owned by 61 CLS shareholder banks providing access to the system to more than 17,000 largest banks. In accordance with the plan of measures for creation of the International financial center in the Russian Federation, the Bank of Russia carries out joint activities with CLS aimed at inclusion of Russian ruble into the list of settlement currencies of the CLS system.
CLS was represented in the negotiations by Gerard Hartsink, Chairman, and David Pas, Chief Executive Officer. Sberbank was represented by Olga Kanovich, Management Board Member, Senior Vice-President of Sberbank of Russia. In accordance with the international practice, the negotiating parties agreed to develop a joint action program, that will be agreed with the Bank of Russia, for Sberbank's entering the CLS, allocate the required specialist teams, and begin implementation of the project.
