OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2012. ThyssenKrupp Uhde has received a contract to build a low-density ammonium nitrate plant. Low-density or technical-grade ammonium nitrate is used in the construction and mining industries across the world. As a base chemical for various products it plays an important part in building infrastructure, reported the press-centre of ThyssenKrupp.

In the Vietnamese province of Thai Binh a low-density ammonium nitrate (LDAN) plant is set to go into operation at the beginning of 2015 which will have a capacity of 625 tons per day and meet all the country’s demand for the product. The contract to build the plant has been awarded to a consortium consisting of ThyssenKrupp Uhde, Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Company Limited, Toyo Vietnam Corporation Limited and Lilama 69-1 Joint Stock Company. The client is Mining Chemical Industry Holding Corporation Limited (MICCO).

The scope of services includes basic engineering, detail engineering, supply of all equipment and materials, construction and commissioning. The contract is worth approx. 200 million US dollars.

The project also includes a nitric acid plant with a capacity of 500 tons per day and all necessary offsites and utilities. Also part of the plant is a tail gas treatment plant which will reduce the NOx content in the tail gas to less than 50 ppm and thus meet high environmental standards.

“This project underlines the capabilities of ThyssenKrupp’s plant business in the area of petrochemicals and in particular nitrogen chemicals in this case,” explains Dr. Niclas Muller, CEO of the Plant Technology business area of ThyssenKrupp AG. “With our highly efficient plants and efficient use of resources we give our customers significant competitive advantages. Once again we have gained the trust of our customers on the global growth markets and are strengthening our market presence in the Asia-Pacific region.”
