Commission Reviewed Social Environment during Andash Development
OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2012. The conclusion of the International Ecological Commission on the impact assessment of technogenic factors on natural and social environment during Andash development was reviewed, reported the press-centre of IBC.
In July-September of this year experts examined design documentation, inspected locations for future sites for mining facilities in Talas region and met with local experts. As a matter of course there was conducted an assessment of reliability of all production facilities, possible environment contamination, measures to minimize the contamination, physical impact on people on all stages of field development.
Scientists have noted the need to renew the number of studies. Thus, it is desirable to complete some hydro-geological studies, to assess the volumes of water intakes from Karakol river and potable water wells, to conduct the model analysis of noise impact. Special attention should be paid to the issue of household waste disposal and preservation of soil layer designed for further recultivation.
Dust and noise were recognized as main factors influencing natural and social environment. However, dust will be generated within boundaries of land allotment and this is significantly less than sanitary protection zone. Noise effect will also be restricted by the working zone of the enterprise. Due to design decisions the water pollution is prevented. There will be no discharge to external environment. It was also noted that production facilities will be located on marginal soils and that there will be a system of industrial environmental control at the enterprise.
Based on the expertise, the following conclusions were made:
The performance of construction works and works on exploitation of Andash Gold/Copper Project is practical in terms of impact on environment.
The environment will be affected within allowable limits.
