IBA Sponsors ACM ICPC Quarterfinals
OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2012. The quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) among university students of the Western Region was held in Minsk, Belarus. The Belarusian State University (BSU) hosted the competition for the 15th time. This year, 57 teams from Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia competed in programming, reported the press-centre of IBA.
Before the official opening of the contest, the organizers held a press conference. The BSU management, coaches of the participating teams, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the organizing committee, and leading Belarusian IT companies spoke with journalists.
Leonid Bokun, Business Development Director at IBA Minsk, comments: “Since 1998, IBA has been sponsoring Belarusian student teams that participate in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contests. It is very important for an IT company whether the students are ready to study more, what their potential is and whether they have a desire to improve themselves. Belarusian IT companies contribute to the development of the IT education in Belarus, providing technological assistance, launching competence centers and scientific laboratories, conducting courses on technology development and lectures at universities, and supporting intellectual competitions. We are sure that helping universities means helping ourselves."
At the opening ceremony of the quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), Pavel Mandrik, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of BSU, thanked IBA for long-term cooperation and all-round assistance in organizing the event.
Addressing the audience, Sergei Levteev, IBA CEO, said: “When participating in such a distinguished programming contest, our best students - future programmers – should first and foremost realize that it is not just personal achievement but a coordinated team work that promotes success and leads to the victory. This is how it happens in real projects and one should learn how to work in a team. This is a guarantee of future professional credentials.”
On October 24, the team of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of BSU was named the winner of the quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) among university students of the Western Region. Having solved ten out of ten problems, Roman Udovichenko, Andrei Malevich, and Sergei Zhgirovsky confirmed the leadership of the Belarusian IT education.
The teams of the Latvian University, BSUIR, and one more BSU team were awarded with a first place diploma. The list of 13 semifinalists includes teams of BSU, BSUIR, Grodno State University, and Brest State Technical University.
The ACM ICPC World finals will take place from June 30 to July 4, 2013, in the Saint Petersburg National Research University ITMO, Russia.
