After over a year of plan collection, demonstration and detailing, the general plan of Chongqing Yuelai Eco-city was deliberated, approved and released by the 137th Executive Meeting of Chongqing Municipal Meeting: Yuelai Eco-city is an ecological and liveable comprehensive community with quality living as its main concept, supported by commercial service, business office, scientific research and development, relaxation and amusement and other urban functions.

Yuelai Eco-city is near Jinshan Road in the east; in the west, Jialing River acts as its border; the north side of it is urban central expressway; in the south side, Natural Valley acts as its border. The planned urban construction land is 2.46 km2. The spatial structure is planned as the functional structure of "one center, three communities and two valleys": one center refers to the public service center established around Gaoyikou Station of a branch line of Metro Line 6 with the main functions such as commercial retail, business office, scientific research and development and so on; three communities refer to three ecological living communities divided according to the terrain and road system; two valleys refer to Zhangjiaxi Valley and South Valley, and natural ecological wetland park will be established according to the complicated terrain of the two deep valleys.

The total planned construction area of Yuelai Eco-city is 3,150,000 m2, in which, the total construction area for living is 2,370,000 m2 (in which, the total construction area of supporting commercial service facilities is 360,000 m2); the area of commercial service land is 19 hectares and the total construction area of commercial service facilities is 450,000 m2. In the northeast, 1 middle school is planned to be established; in the middle and south, 1 primary school will be established respectively. The total construction area is 14.22 hectares. Meanwhile, according to public service facilities and service radius, 6 public parking lots and 3 starting and terminating bus stations will be built.

The general plan of Yuelai Eco-city regards "TOD" (Transit-Oriented Development) as its core concept, reflecting the land development mode with public transit as its orientation. A lot of mass public transit stations are regarded as the core. Through mixed utilization of the land, relatively high land utilization density will be achieved. After improvement of land use efficiency and mass public transit use efficiency, a walkable urban community with a compact layout will be established.
