Fujitsu Debuts MEF CE 2.0-Compliant Ethernet Service Delivery Platform
OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2012. Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, today announced the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) software release that supports the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0-compliant E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Access services. The new software release positions the FLASHWAVE 9500 platform as a uniquely capable Packet ONP that integrates Connectionless Ethernet (CLE) capabilities with current Connection-oriented Ethernet (COE), ROADM, DWDM and SONET/SDH technologies. The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP forms a unified CE 2.0 Ethernet service delivery platform that can deliver any of the MEF services over any type of access network.
Communications Service Providers are challenged by the continual introduction of diverse, bandwidth-intensive applications and the need to maintain existing, profitable services. The award-winning Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP addresses this challenge by seamlessly blending legacy traffic with newer, packet-centric communications. Whether deployed into an existing network infrastructure, or as part of a greenfield environment, the new FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP software release greatly reduces network complexity and cost while creating new revenue-generating opportunities.
The breadth of technologies integrated into the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP, in combination with CE 2.0 compliance, increases services revenue by accelerating service deployments. Fujitsu’s customers can realize new revenue generation opportunities of MEF E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Access services by leveraging the product’s unique capability to deliver these services over their existing SONET/SDH, T1/T3, copper local loop and fiber infrastructure. With the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP, service providers can deliver wholesale MEF E-Access services on the same infrastructure as their retail MEF Ethernet services.
“Major North American carriers have made the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP part of their networks and I’m certain they’ll find these new capabilities compelling,” said Eve Griliches, VP Optical Research, ACG Research. “As the industry continues moving from TDM transport to a next-generation packet-centric infrastructure, investments in existing resources must be leveraged while support for newer, revenue generating packet-based services is added. With the introduction of the latest FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP software enhancements, I believe Fujitsu is checking all the right boxes.”
“The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP has integrated the many transport technologies deployed in our customers’ networks into one software re-configurable MEF-centric services delivery platform,” said James Anthony, Principal Solutions Architect, Packet Optical Networking, Fujitsu Network Communications. “This unified networking solution is packaged in a single system with a single Element Management System that can provision new Ethernet services in as little as a minute. With the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP customers can count on flexibility, reliability and scalability that keep the platform’s total cost of ownership well below the revenue curve.”
