OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2012. Public debates organized on the initiative of OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel (hereinafter – the Company or MMC Norilsk Nickel) to discuss activities being implemented by the Polar Division of MMC Norilsk Nickel to reduce the amount of polluting substances discharged into the atmosphere, were held in Moscow, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.

Representatives of Norilsk Administration, State Duma, Federal executive bodies, consulting and non-government organizations, ecological movements, experts specializing in industrial air protection, state institutions, scientific organizations, design institutes and independent ecology experts participated in the debates.

During the debates it was noted that one of the key priorities of the Company’s ecological policy is to achieve gradual reduction in the amount of polluting substances discharged into the atmosphere (primarily sulfur dioxide and dust). 

During the course of public debates experts and other participants have provided their suggestions and comments on the subject, in general, however, the activities proposed by MMC Norilsk Nickel to reduce the pollution and attain maximum permitted emission levels were approved. The experts noted that the planned timeframes for implementation of such activities correspond to the average investment project duration both in Russian and international non-ferrous metallurgical production industry. Debates participants also suggested holding public discussions in Krasnoyarsk region – the area where Company’s primary production assets are located.
