October 31, 2012.   At its annual “Salute to Freedom” Gala held on October 27 in Raleigh, NC, the United Service Organization (USO) of North Carolina (NC) recognized Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) for its contributions to active-duty service members, veterans and their families.  Lenovo’s David Schmoock, senior vice president and president, North America, and himself a military veteran, accepted the USO’s Teer Award on behalf of the Company.  


 The Teer Award is USO’s highest honor given to a business and was created to honor Robert Teer for his service and support of the USO of NC through time, effort and funds.  Teer is the driving force in establishing, building and sustaining the USO of NC Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) center at airport’s Terminal 2 location, which opened in 2010.

Lenovo provides computers and technology support to the RDU center visited by active-duty service members as well as parents and children of servicemen and women.

 "We are honored to have received this prestigious award and grateful to our military for the sacrifices they and their families make for us,” said Schmoock.  “Our employees happily donate their time and resources to help refurbish the technology that enables parents and children of servicemen and women to connect with their loved ones, and this is just one of the ways we show our appreciation to our troops and their families.”

 “The USO of NC's travel centers in Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte and Fayetteville provide a 'home away from home' for our military.  Connecting with their families while traveling is a way to lift their spirits.  We couldn’t do it without Lenovo’s technology that makes it all possible, especially in the RDU center where Lenovo provided all the equipment,” said the USO of NC president and COO, John Falkenbury. 

 Lenovo’s military support programs extend to veterans who are looking to find work as they transition back to civilian life.  Through customized workshops and career mentoring days, Lenovo helps veterans prepare to find a field of interest and employment opportunities.

In addition, by partnering with the non-profit, Kramden Institute, Inc., Lenovo also provides refurbished computers to families of active service members.  Lenovo’s next event with the Kramden Institute will be held on November 12, Veterans Day, when Lenovo employees will build 150 PCs for Fort Bragg families.
