OREANDA-NEWS.  October 29, 2012. Sakhalin Energy has demonstrated high rate performance in the field of health safety and environment (HSE). October 19 was marked by the company as the date when its staff and contractor personnel achieved one year with no lost time incidents, reported the press-centre of Sakhalin Energy.

From October 2011 till October 2012 the company employees and contractors have worked more than 13 million man-hours, while the company transport passed about 11 million kilometres. But the main thing behind the 0 LTI is the health and safety of all those who work under the Sakhalin-2 project.

Sakhalin Energy has taken a systematic approach to the management of health, safety and environmental issues in order to achieve this goal. The Company has designated safe behaviour, industrial and road safety as the main points in focus. The HSE management approach is based on strict observance of Russian rules and regulations coupled with compliance with international management standards.

Sakhalin Energy has made up a code of ten rules – Life Saving Rules, violation of which leads to grave administrative consequences, including dismissal. These prohibit alcohol consumption and drug use, smoking in an active hydrocarbon area, presence or use of ignition sources in an active hydrocarbon area, driving whilst using hand held communication devices, driving without the required Journey Authorisation and a valid Defensive Driving Certificate, working without the relevant Permit To Work and require strict observance of speed limits and mandatory use of seat belts.

Besides, any employee of the Company or a contractor has the right to stop any work if he/she believes that it is performed in an unsafe environment. The Chief Executive Officer of Sakhalin Energy has established a special HSE award, which is given to employees of the Company or a contractor for exemplary actions in the field of safety assurance. And these efforts are paying off to the Company as a safe closure to every day.
