Power Plant Team Organises Self Income Generation Training Programme
OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2012. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has been associated with various welfare initiatives in Haldia. In continuation of these efforts, the Haldia team commenced an initiative on sustainable income generation for the womenfolk residing in communities around its area of operations.
The Haldia team, in collaboration with Haldia Samaj Kalyan Parishad, an NGO, launched a training programme on incense-stick making for underprivileged women. This training programme will continue for three months and a team of 25 has been formed to train the women on various types of incense-stick making techniques. After one month of training, the group will start commercial production of incense-sticks. In order to facilitate development of a marketing chain, the Haldia team collaborated with an NGO to facilitate the marketing process and develop market linkage.
Speaking on this initiative, Abhijit Ain Das, station head, Haldia power plant, said, “The objective of this initiative is to help underprivileged women by helping them build their skills and capabilities for income generation and help them supplement their family income. Such sustainable income generation programmes will also facilitate them to be self-reliant and play a significant role in improving the quality of life of their families.”
