Rostov NPP Passed Audit for Compliance with OHSAS 18001:2007
OREANDA-NEWS. October 15, 2012. The audit of Rostov nuclear power plant's occupational health and safety management system compliance with requirements of the international standard OHSAS 18001:2007 was carried out commencing October 9.
A working group, which included representatives of the Association for Certification Russian Register and the Klin Institute of Labor Protections and Conditions OLS-komplekt, conducted the audit of compliance of the plant's occupational health and safety management system with requirements of the international standard OHSAS 18001:2007 covering processes and structural divisions associated with the declared certification field, namely, generation of thermal and electric energy; operation of NPP equipment; handling of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste.
The experts led by Alexander Sankov, deputy head of the branch office of the Association for Certification Russian Register in Rostov-on-Don, walked down working places at operating units of Rostov NPP to check on functioning of the occupational health and safety management system. The audit scope was defined by the plan and included adequacy check on the activities and system elements. These included production, management and ancillary processes; policy; goals; management organizational structure; and documentation.
"In the course of the audit the Rostov NPP personnel demonstrated the openness and interest in objective results of the audit and facilitated the full achievement of the audit goal. It was found out that the management system at the NPP is in place and develops basing on the continuous improvement principle and meets the principles of OHSAS 18001:2007," Alexander Sankov shared his opinion.
The international occupational health and safety management system OHSAS 18001:2007 has been introduced at Rostov NPP since 2011. An OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate is issued for 3 years, and an audit is conducted each year to verify the management system compliance to the requirements established by the standard.
