OREANDA-NEWS.  October 15, 2012. Electro-chemical protection is successfully applied at TATNEFT Company for protection of underground and surface facilities from ground corrosion, reported the press-centre of Tatneft.

Specialists of TatNIPIneft have developed a technology of cathodic protection of underground and surface facilities from ground corrosion at industrial sites providing for joint cathodic protection of all internal facilities within the industrial sites and all the incoming and outgoing underground pipelines.

Cathodic protection is implemented by continuous superimposition of the negative polarity DC on the structure protected.

The technology provides for protection of oil treatment installations, tank farms, preliminary water removal units, booster pump stations; effluent treatment units of the oil complex treatment and refining workshops; preliminary and integrated gas treatment plants, as well as gas and crude oil refineries.

Application of the cathodic protection technology for preventing ground corrosion of the internal tank farms facilities ensures ground corrosion protection of all the underground metal communications (tanks and piping) and extends the life period of all the underground internal tank farm structures. Reduction of the protected facilities failure rate also improves the environmental situation within the tank farm industrial sites.

The technology provides for the most important condition of the cathodic protection efficiency: continuous maintenance of the protecting potentials across the whole surface of the protected facility during the whole lifetime.

The development of TatNIPIneft specialists has proved to be effective at the oil and gas production facilities of TATNEFT.

This engineering development was awarded the I-st degree diploma of the XIX-th International Exhibition "Oil and Gas. Petrochemicals - 2012" in the category "Innovative environmentally friendly technologies".
