OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2012. In 2012, CONCERN TITAN-2, JSC is a Contractor General for construction of facilities of B. P. Konstantinov Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics.

The following works have been performed at the construction site of PIK reactor complex in the current year under the contracts of TITAN-2 Holding:

• 465 tons of equipment for reactor biological protection has been prepared and assembled;

• The central experimental channels for reactor's cooling system have been assembled;

• Emergency cooling system for the reactor's central experimental channel has been installed;

• More than 60 tons of metal process pipeline support frames was assembled;

• Equipment for distribution substation RP-8 of building 102 was installed, 20 6kV-switchgear cells and two TM 6306/0.4kV- distribution transformers installed;

• Interdepartment 6\0.4 kV-cable systems have been laid;

• 6\0.4 kV-switchgears are installed on the territory of the key buildings of the complex;

• Arrangement of heat supply and ventilation is being performed in the buildings;

• The territory is being improved, the site levelling, asphalting driveways, lawn making, building finishing with wall panels being performed.

The total amount of funds supposed to be spent by the Holding organizations at this site this year is 1 bln. 146 mln. rubles.

TITAN-2 Holding is the largest Group of Companies in the North-West of Russia which erects the most important facilities of nuclear industry and power engineering. The organizations perform the full cycle of building and assembly work: from development of design documentation to the facility commissioning. The Holding consists of more than 20 organizations and employs about 4,500 employees with more than 40-year-experience in construction of unique and super-complicated facilities. The management company and the key engineering business-unit of the holding is the Company JSC CONCERN TITAN-2.

Construction of PIK reactor started in 1976, but, similar to other nuclear projects, this site was frozen because of Chernobyl NPP accident. By 1986, the buildings had been built, the significant part of works had been completed, and adjustment of certain systems had started. The updated, corrected project had been ready by 1991, but the construction had been frozen by that time already. In 2007, after carrying out the state expert review of the project, the RF Government made a decision to assign 6 bln rubles to complete the construction of the reactor with two startup complexes. In 2008, the general contract for completion of reactor construction was transferred to TITAN-2 Holding, and by the end of 2009, the company specialists had completed all the works related to the first start-up complex in time and passed the facility on to the institute personnel for its further on preparation for physical start.

PIK reactor will become a source of powerful neutron beams capable of getting through different materials which will allow seeing the structure details comparable to atoms in size, distinction of biological molecule structures which are not "seen" by X-rays.
