OREANDA-NEWS.  October 11, 2012. The 25th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is taking place in Doha (Qatar) from 24th September to 15th October 2012, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

UPU is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates information exchange between residents of the member-states through postal services. UPU establishes the rules of international postal exchange, draws documents and procedures, issues recommendations to stimulate increase of postal communications and enhance the quality of customer services.

The Congress is the supreme UPU body that meets every four years. In particular, the 25th Congress shall sum up the work of UPU in 2008 - 2012 and determine the strategy for developing the global postal community for the next 4-year period.

Meeting of No.7 UPU Committee (Postal Markets and Products) took place from 26th September to 3rd October. Deputy Head of the Department for Control over Transport and Communications of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), Elena Zayeva, took part in the work of the Committee.

The Committee’s agenda included development of postal markets, the market of e-trade, the quality of services (in particular, UOU Global Monitoring System) as well as safety issues.

Participation in such UPU events enables establishing unified international postal communications, improving the quality of international postal exchange, facilitating postal cooperation between UPU member-states and regulating disputed issues between UPU members.
