OMZ-Izhora Simulates Casting of 500-Ton Supersized Ingot
OREANDA-NEWS. October 9, 2012. OMZ Izhora’s Research Center held its Science and Engineering Board meeting dedicated to the results of the research work named “Calculations of crystallization of 500-ton ingots, casted from two types of steel: 26HNZM2FA and 45HZMF using computer modeling”, which became the first stage of mastering production of unique supersized ingots.
This successful work, which lasted for almost two years, is a landmark not only for OMZ Group’s businesses, but also for the domestic engineering industry as a whole. These results of the modeling allow OMZ Special Steels to start designing new tooling required for optimum casting of large ingots. Development of casting tools based on calculations made by OMZ Izhora’s Research Center using the latest computer simulation programs will be the next stage in the development of production of supersized ingots weighing 500 tons and more.
Mastering production of large ingots casted from steel 26HNZM2FA and 45HZMF launches new opportunities for manufacturing of large steel billets for nuclear power plant equipment and petrochemicals. This allows OMZ Group’s plants to significantly reduce the terms of production of equipment by reducing the number of welds, as well as to improve the reliability of the produced equipment. In addition, it provides a unique opportunity for the development of new products: backup rolls and turbine rotors for modern power plants.
OMZ Group is one of the leading heavy industry companies specializing in engineering, production, sales and service support of equipment for nuclear, oil and gas, mining industries, as well as special steel production and industrial services. OMZ Group’s facilities are located in Russia and Czech Republic. The Group is controlled by Gazprombank.
