AeroSvit, UIA Lend Countenance on Plan of Boryspil Hub
OREANDA-NEWS. October 09, 2012. The largest Ukrainian carriers – AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines and Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) – uphold the ambition of the Government of Ukraine to transform Kiev Boryspil International airport into a large international hub, reported the press-centre of UIA.
To date UIA and AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines together ensure nearly 70% of Kiev Boryspil International airport’s passenger traffic, constantly increasing the transit component. Thus, the two Ukraine’s major network airlines actively contribute to Boryspil`s transformation into a hub.
As such, both carriers are interested in further joint development and growth of Ukraine's largest airport’s transit potential. AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines and UIA welcome the ambition of the Government of Ukraine to meet the challenge by engaging a professional private company with proven international experience in aviation transport management through a competitive tender process.
Customary international practice sustains the base carriers` crucial role in the international airports` transformation into large competitive hubs. Accordingly, both AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines and UIA expect industry management to engage them into key terms of the concession tender formulation process.
UIA and AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines are convinced that the optimum choice of the concessionaire-operator is only possible upon condition the tender’s absolute openness and transparency is ensured, access to all interested parties is granted, and the sufficient period of time is set out. Given the strategic importance of the decision to be made as a result of the concession tender, any haste in its organizing is unacceptable.
On their part, UIA and AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines commence joint advisory meetings with leading international companies – airport operators – to discuss their participation in the future tender and to consider a possibility of establishing a consortium aimed at ensuring the most efficient cooperation of base airlines and Kiev Boryspil International airport.
