Moldovan Government to Stop Financing of National Wine Day
OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2012. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the governmental support is a temporary measure and in the nearest future organization of the holiday and it financing will fall to winemakers associations. According to the Ministry, in 2012 the organization of National Wine Day came to 1 mln. leis, 100 thou leis less than in 2011.
Winemaking companies contributed in the organization 400 thou. leis as a participation fee, catering companies contributed 200 thou. leis and sponsors provided 200 thou. leis. It was transferred 200 mln. leis from the state budget to the fund during this period. The Ministry notes that winemaking is a strategic product for Moldova which brings considerable incomes to its budget. The winemaking branch employees close to 200 thou. people and wine makes one fourth of a total amount of Moldovan expert of agricultural production.
Representative of the Union of oenologists of Moldova Gheorghe Arpentin said yesterday that National Wine Day in Moldova should be organized by winemakers and their associations rather than by the Ministry of Agriculture because these are winemakers that bear principal costs whereas the Ministry and the government are assuming the honour of organising the festival and promoting themselves.
