Advisory Expert Council under MIA Established in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. October 04, 2012. An efficiency of militia activity, morality of its employees, legal and financial maintenance of work of the internal affairs bodies - these issues were discussed by members of the newly established advisory body under the Ministry of Interior.
Participating in the meeting were MPs of Ukraine, civic leaders, and leading academic institutions, clergy, leadership, and veterans of the Interior.
Opening the Constituent Council meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Vitaliy Zakharchenko noted that to execute the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On public policy strategy to promote the development of civil society in Ukraine and priority measures for its implementation", the law enforcement department is constantly working towards finding new forms of involvement of civil society representatives to resolve outstanding issues within the MIA competence.
According to Vitaly Zakharchenko, the main aspect of this collaboration is the issue of observance of rights and freedoms of man and citizen in the Interior activities. Concerning social protection of workers and retirees, the department interacts with trade unions and veterans' organizations.
"Meanwhile, we feel the urgent need to establish an agency which is running under the Interior Ministry, realizing its potential both in traditional form of meetings and through direct consultations, would be carried out coordination in the field of cooperation between non-governmental organizations and experts, offering solutions to most problematic and current issues of MIA activity," the law enforcement department head said in his speech.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, such cooperation between militia and civil society will enable better inform our fellow citizens both about the problematic and the positive points in the internal affairs bodies' activity.
