Mitsubishi Motors Publishes Mitsubishi Motors Social Report 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. October 2, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today that it has published the Mitsubishi Motors Social and Environmental Report 2012 which summarizes its achievements in tackling social and environmental issues during the 2011 fiscal year
MMC began publishing an Environmental Report annually in 1999 but in 2005 changed the title to the Social & Environmental Report as it extended the scope of the report to include corporate citizenship activities. The latest Report is the 14th edition.
The latest edition of the Report includes three main features which focus on and give specific examples of the company's efforts in the areas of the development of electric vehicles (EVs) and eco-friendly cars, as well as contributions to society in an easy-to-read and clearly understandable format, described below:
Feature 1: EVs – Offering Expectations of Becoming Part of Social Infrastructure
MMC introduced the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle (EV), the i-MiEV to the market in July 2009. In December 2011, MMC expanded its EV lineup by introducing the new MINICAB-MiEV, mini-car class commercial EV to the market.
As EV is capable of storing a large amount of electrical power and can be used for a power source at the time of emergency or as a part of a "smart grid," it has gained attention and the expectations have been changing after the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred in March 2011.
As a world's leading EV manufacturer, Mitsubishi Motors has been working on developing the latest environmental friendly technologies. Some of the examples in the report include introduction of an electrical power feeder, called the MiEV power BOX, start of smart grid feasibility tests, and development of a Plug-in Hybrid EV system based on already existing EV technologies.
Feature 2: New-Generation Eco-Cars For The Global Market
MMC is proactively taking measures towards improving fuel efficiency and developing new technologies for conventional petrol engine vehicles to effectively use oil resources. The all-new Outlander and Mirage introduced in 2012 provide great fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions.
Feature 3 :Employee Participation in Corporate Citizenship Activities
This section provides specific examples of how MMC's employees engage in the key themes of the company's corporate citizenship activities: Support for the Next Generation, Traffic Safety, Environmental Preservation and Participation in Local Communities.
