Tata Power Delhi Distribution Undertakes Tree Plantation Drive
OREANDA-NEWS. October 2, 2012. Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), a JV company of Tata Power and the government of Delhi, today organised a tree plantation drive in association with 194 Battalion, CRPF, and planted around 3,000 saplings in and around the CRPF base camp at Bawana in North Delhi. Over 350 CRPF personnel and senior officials from TPDDL participated in the event.
The tree plantation is a continuation of a green initiative - Harit ek pahal, which was launched earlier this year by TPDDL on World Environment Day. TPDDL aims to plant over 20,000 saplings in various areas of north and north-west Delhi by the end of the year under the initiative. The programme has the support of the Delhi Development Authority, which suggests the sites for the plantation, as well as the Department of Forest and the Ministry of Environment, which contributes the saplings.
“Tree plantation is aimed at enhancing the green cover at different locations in our distribution area as well as creating awareness about the pressing need of conserving our environment. We are happy to have joined hands with CRPF for this cause and are sure that this will not be limited to just Delhi and will be spread across various states in India where the CRPF is present. We are also looking forward to partnering with them for other social initiatives as well,” said Praveer Sinha, CEO and ED, TPDDL.
HK Kanaujia, commandant, 194 Battalion, talked about the significance of enhancing the green cover in the interest of the nation and its citizens. Brij Lal, second-in-command, and Ajit Singh, assistant commandant, were also present on the occasion.
The initiative of promoting green cover is part of a larger move of escalating TPDDL’s ongoing energy conservation programmes to include a much broader and equally urgent issue of environmental depletion and global warming.
