OREANDA-NEWS. October 02, 2012. Illinois Cancer Specialists (ICS), united in healing with The US Oncology Network, announced today that Hinsdale Hematology-Oncology Associates (HHOA) will join its oncology and hematology practice to expand and enhance patient services in Chicago and the surrounding areas, reported the press-centre of McKesson.

The six board-certified physicians currently with HHOA will join the 12 oncologists of ICS to offer state-of-the-art, comprehensive cancer care and enhanced services to oncology and hematology patients in the comfort and convenience of a community setting.

“We at Hinsdale Hematology-Oncology Associates combine our years of professional experience, judgment and skill with a dedication to evidence-based medicine to provide patients with high-quality, compassionate care,” said Donald L. Sweet, M.D., F.A.C.P., president, HHOA and director of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s cancer center. “In uniting with Illinois Cancer Specialists, we can collaborate with other like-minded physicians to advance cancer care even further and improve the patient experience.”

Illinois Cancer Specialists is united in healing with The US Oncology Network, one of the nation’s largest networks of community-based oncologists dedicated to advancing cancer care in America. By joining ICS, physicians from HHOA will have access to Level I Pathways, physician-led evidence-based treatment guidelines, as well as opportunities to collaborate with an expanded physician community, including network-wide physician committees and conferences, and The Oncology Portal, where approximately 1,000 physicians can share best practices and collaborate on complex cases.

“We are excited to have the physicians of Hinsdale join our practice,” said David Hakimian, M.D., medical oncologist, ICS. “We have a shared vision and dedication to high-quality cancer care and state-of-the art research. This collaboration will not only benefit our practice, but more importantly our patients and the care they receive. They will have two additional location options as well as access to another six physicians committed to helping them beat their disease.”

Illinois Cancer Specialists provides Chicago area patients with advanced, comprehensive, compassionate cancer care. The expanded practice employs the latest technologies and drug therapies to ensure patients receive high-quality care for their particular diagnosis in a collaborative, comprehensive setting. ICS treatment centers feature outpatient treatment and diagnostic facilities including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, positron emission tomography (PET), computerized tomography (CT), stem cell transplant, clinical research, laboratory, x-ray studies and specialized pharmaceuticals.

Given the recent merger with HHOA, Illinois Cancer Specialists now serves the communities in and around the Chicago area with five locations including Hinsdale, Bolingbrook, Arlington Heights, Chicago and Niles.
