OREANDA-NEWS. October 01, 2012. The Boryspil International Airport will be transformed into an international hub: for this purpose it is planned to involve professional operator with international experience.

According to experts, the future development of the airport is possible only if its transformation into a full hub. This strategy coincides with vision of the basic airlines which have already begun to increase transfer volumes of passenger flows.

Primarily it comes to enlargement of the D terminal complex, the completion of transfer area and the terminal part of the domestic flights servicing. Such further construction, according to preliminary estimates, provides investments in the amount of UAH 1,000 million. Given the fact that the enterprise now does not has sufficient own funds, and given the amount of debt burden, the most feasible option is to engage a professional private investor.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, having analyzed the international practice of attracting private investments for infrastructure development of air transport, as well as possible tools stipulated by the current Ukraine’s legislation, has concluded that the most appropriate model to attract private investments for the Boryspil International Airport development is a concession.

In order to involve an investor at these conditions, on September 26 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted the Resolution "On amendments to the list of state property, which might be given in concession" - according to it, the airport is included into the list of state property sites which might be given in concession.
