Turkey, Ukraine May Combine Railway Ferry Service with Viking Project
OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2012. The Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine made proposal with respect to join railway ferry service between Turkey and Ukraine with the Viking project.
With this propose the Head of the State Customs Service Igor Kaletnik address in Istanbul during the bilateral working meetings with the Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Customs and Trade of Republic of Turkey Ziya Altunyaldiz.
The volume of transit traffic for 8 months in 2012 through the ports of Ukraine amounted to 210 thousand tons from Turkey and 4.7 million tons to Turkey.
"Given this dynamics we proposed rail-ferry service between the two countries combined with the project Viking. This will facilitate the development of trade and economic relations not only between Ukraine and Turkey, but Turkey with other countries in northern Ukraine - Belarus, the Baltic States and Scandinavia" - the Head of the State Customs Service said.
Turkey has expressed its interest with this prospect.
