FAS Delegation Took Part in International Workshop on Cartels
OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2012. A delegation of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) took part in an international workshop on the “Economic Analysis Tools for Cartel Investigations” in Kiev (Ukraine). The workshop was organized by the Regional Competition Centre of OECD – Hungary’s Competition Authority in Budapest (Hungary) jointly with the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.
Officers of the competition authorities of Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, the Check Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Georgia, Moldova, Portugal, Sweden, and the UK discussed the specifics of the cartel investigation procedures, types of proofs on which parties rely, and the economic theory underlying cases. Special attention was given to use of economic analysis for proving cartels as the grounds for further investigations or determining damages.
Participants discussed the workshop subjects by attending lectures, taking part in exercises and case studies presented by the competition authority of Ukraine and competition experts from OECD member-states.
The event format enabled FAS representatives to discuss the most pressing problems and issues of mutual interest for different jurisdictions in the field of combating cartels.
The Regional Competition Centre of OECD – Hungary’s Competition Authority in Budapest was formed as a result of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and development and Hungary’s Competition Authority signing the Memorandum of Understanding on 16th February 2005. The main objective of the Regional Competition Centre is to facilitate development of competition policy and law and competition culture in the Eastern, South-Eastern and the Central Europe and, therefore, contribute to economic growth and prosperity in the region.
