OREANDA-NEWS. September 27, 2012. Vyksa Steel Works (OJSC VMZ, Nizhny Novgorod region, part of the United Metallurgical Company, CJSC OMK) has received a certificate of compliance with International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) requirements. It has therefore become the fifth enterprise in Russia to confirm its compliance with this standard. This information was provided at a press conference with Executive Director of VMZ Sergey Filippov.

Representatives of Germany’s DQS Holding GmbH performed the certification audit in July 2012. Together with the subdivisions of VMZ, the audit took place at OMK and OMK-Steel (Moscow City, belongs to OMK), which are very important for the life cycle of VMZ’s products.

“The availability of this certificate will allow us to enter new international sales markets and continue cooperation with our key partner, Russian Railways (RZD), for which this will become a compulsory requirement to the suppliers of railroad products starting in 2015,” S. Filippov said.

In 2010, OMK and RZD struck a strategic partnership agreement until 2015. Within the framework of this partnership, VMZ will continue to develop the production of new types of wheels. In particular, the enterprise is implementing a comprehensive program to create new-generation all-rolled wheels with increased service durability for freight cars, as well as a unique project to develop the production of railroad wheels for speed and high-speed passenger traffic.
