OREANDA-NEWS. September 27, 2012. TRL Krosaki Refractories (TRL Krosaki) recently organised a workshop on dental awareness for school children at Jubilee Hall, Belpahar, under its year-long programme on dental hygiene. More than 350 students of BR High School, BEM School, Vivekananda International School and GPUP School attended this day-long workshop. The programme was organised by the CD and SW Department of TRL Krosaki in association with JG Hospital and the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Rourkela chapter.

A team of doctors including Dr Ranjan Kumar Patel, president, IDA; Dr Subodh Meher, secretary, IDA; and Dr Milan Pasayat, member, IDA, conducted the programme on oral hygiene management, prevention of caries, brushing technique, etc. They created awareness about dental caries, cavities and other related diseases through videos, cartoons and presentations. Two separate sessions were also organised for teachers. The programme ended with distribution of leaflets on dental care and fruits and biscuits among the students.

As per a survey, 30-40 percent of the children in this region are facing some kind of dental problem. The company therefore is observing 2012 as the 'Year of Dental Caries' for focusing on this problem. Regular dental check-ups in schools, creating dental care awareness among parents, etc have already been started. The company plans to conduct such programmes and health camps in nearby villages in the coming months.

This workshop was organised under the CSR programme Balya Shree, a healthy child programme started in 2002 by the company for the holistic health development of children. Various activities like pre-natal and ante-natal counseling of mothers, health check-up programmes in schools, sports and games, inter-school athletic meets, inter-school games meet, Balya Shree marathon, Balya Shree Olympiad, healthy baby shows, rewards for healthy babies, etc are organised by the CD and SW department of the company under this programme.
