OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2012. MegaFon is the first Russian major mobile operator to provide 4G services in Kostroma — picturesque town with a long history, located in North-West of Russia. This is the tenth region in this country that enjoys 4G Internet access from MegaFon.

The key consumer advantage of 4G is quick network response (PING) and higher data speed compared to 3G which makes usage of mobile Internet even more convenient and effective. New technology allows customers to watch HD videos, to communicate with their friends in social networks with no delays, share photos, send large files and presentations, do other personal and business things.

At the initial stage, 4G network covers almost entire Kostroma region (Gorodische, Severniy, Rabochaya Sloboda, Trudovaya Sloboda, Baidarki, Pervomaiskiy, Oktyabrskiy, Malyshkovo, etc.). The effort on further improvement of data transmission quality will be continued both in the town and outside.

In order to use 4G services subscribers today can purchase new modems in MegaFon stores at 1990RUR, at the same time each subscriber gets two weeks of free mobile Internet (Internet XL tariff option is activated from the third week). New modems can operate in all communication standards (4G/3G/2G).

Kostroma is the tenth region in the country where subscribers get 4G Internet access from MegaFon. As of today such services are available in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Samara, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Sochi, Vladivostok, Ufa and Kazan. Before the end of this year, 4G footprint with cover 30% of the Russian population.

4G: speed test

Test was performed in MegaFon’s office in Kostroma and demonstrated great capabilities of 4G network. Streaming video in HD was downloaded from www.youtube.com at 20 Mbps. Testing with speedtest.net showed the result of 45 Mbps. Download of large software file of 6.5Gb from official websites of leading software vendors was performed at average speed from 75 to 85 Mbps .
