Jet Airways Takes Deserving, Underprivileged Students
OREANDA-NEWS. September 24, 2012. As part of the “Joy of Giving Week- India's Festival of Giving”, Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline today offered 160 students from the Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit Jet Airways’ aircraft maintenance hangar near the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Santacruz. The educational excursion programme was organised by JetSpark, an exclusive initiative of the airline to connect with its young travelers, in association with non-governmental organisation (NGO) Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, which is dedicated to community based development for the less privileged through a 10 Care Programme (Health, Education, Child, Woman, Tribal, Community, Humanitarian, Emergency Relief, Animal, Environment)
In keeping with Jet Airways’ focus on supporting causes relating to child development and education in the community, JetSpark endeavors to open up the world of aviation to these children.
At a half-day event held at the airline’s hangar, the children were given an opportunity to explore a Boeing 737-700 aircraft parked in the hangar, spending more than three hours learning and understanding the working of the aircraft. The children were also shown the interior of the Jet Airways aircraft cockpit, the cargo hold, airline maintenance and landing gear operations.
The children interacted with Jet Airways Engineers, Pilots and Cabin Crew. They also observed the landing and take off of various planes at the Airport. The children were later taken for a visit to the engine, structure, brake & wheel and seat shops, with this educational excursion by the engineers providing the children with rich insights into airline maintenance and operations.
Mr. Sudheer Raghavan, Chief Commercial Officer, Jet Airways, said, “It is indeed a privilege for us to work with these notable NGOs and their wards. It is most gratifying to see the smiles lighting up the faces of these children as they look forward to such an educative program. We are especially happy to offer our young children this unique opportunity to experience firsthand a comprehensive maintenance operation, which should give them some in-depth understanding of how the airline operates”
Mr. Dhaval Mehta, Coordinator, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, adds, “This visit to Mumbai is aimed at giving children from rural India an exposure to science, history etc. in a practical way, mixing education with entertainment. It’s been a dream come true for them to experience this very special guided tour of the Jet Airways Hangar with detailed explanations by the pilots and staff of Jet Airways. The children got the chance to see the interiors of a real plane, which is something that they have never dreamt of. This firsthand experience will be of immense educational value and a tremendous motivation for the children. Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care thanks Jet Airways for providing them this wonderful opportunity.”
