Transaero Starts Providing Wireless Internet and Mobile Data Onboard
OREANDA-NEWS. September 21, 2012. Transaero Airlines has launched broadband Internet and mobile data services onboard. Currently two long-haul aircraft are equipped with the communication systems. Boeing 777-300 EI UNP now performs daily flights between Moscow and Vladivostok while Boeing 747-400 EI XLJ is deployed on various routes from the capital of Russia to popular leisure destinations.
Transaero selected Panasonic Avionics as a provider of the equipment for its Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft, T-Mobile as Internet service provider and AeroMobile as mobile operator.
The price for Internet connectivity starts from RUB400 for one-hour session (approximately USD 13 at present currency rate) and goes up to RUB800 for unlimited access during the whole flight (approximately USD 26). The price for mobile calls varies depending on the customer’s mobile operator roaming rates.
Transaero plans to fix communication equipment on more aircraft in the near future. Total investments are estimated to reach USD 30 million.
