Ukraine to Use German Experience to Increase Agricultural Production
OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2012. Ukraine and Germany are going to double the volume of trade in agricultural products. Germany also will advise the Ukraine concerning the use of its experience in capacity of agricultural production. These issues have been discussed today during the 11th meeting of the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Committee, which was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Ivan Bisyuk and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Gerd Muller.
Welcoming the German representatives, Ivan Bisyuk stressed the importance of cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the agricultural sector, and also thanked the German colleagues for their assistance in consultations in the process of reforming Ukrainian agricultural sector. According to him, deepening cooperation is important for both countries, as two-way agricultural trade in recent years has gained momentum.
Director of the Department of Agriculture of the Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksandr Demidov noted the trade surplus continues to grow.
"In 2011, total trade turnover between Ukraine and Germany was 751 million dollars, and for six months of the year - 368 million dollars", - Oleksandr Demidov said.
"Our goal is to double the turnover of agricultural and food products. It is pleased to note that trade between the two countries have significantly increased in recent years. However, the potential of producers of grain in Ukraine is very big, so you can double you exports. We also offer the experience of the former GDR to increase productivity in livestock and crop production"- Gerd Muller said.
The meeting’s participants reminded that the agricultural ministry of Germany supports reforms in the Ukrainian agricultural sector. In particular, the German-Ukrainian agrarian dialog Project facilitates the transfer of the German experience in shaping agricultural policy and legislative framework, and the "German Agrarian Center" promotes awareness of the German technology in agriculture.
