OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2012. The project of cleaning of industrial and domestic waste water, implemented at the TANECO Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex in Nizhnekamsk was highly praised at the republican level. This project was awarded a winner diploma of the "ECOleader" contest in the nomination "For introduction of technologies for collection and processing of secondary resources, as well as energy-saving and environmentally efficient technologies", reported the press-centre of TATNEFT.

The unparalleled in Russia treatment facilities of TANECO combined high technologies of known domestic and international companies. Application of integrated traditional and modern methods of treatment, such as membrane bioreactors, reverse osmosis, adsorption and ultraviolet disinfection allowed for ensuring the "closed-loop" principle and minimizing required water intake amounts.

A distinctive feature of the cleaning process is absence of both primary and secondary settlers. Activate silt from aeration tanks output is captured by membrane bioreactors. Dewatering of sludge, sediments and redundant silt is implemented with application of compact centrifuges. All this has allowed reducing the area of the sewage treatment facilities down to 9.2 hectares and completely eliminating the possibility of pollutants discharge to the environment.

The design capacity of the main lines of the installation for process water treatment is 2100 m3 per hour. Cleaning efficiency by various parameters is within the range from 87 to 99 percent. At least as important is the fact that the treatment facilities are located on the same site with the major production facilities. There is no need to transport contaminated industrial waste water over long distances, which eliminates the risk of accidental raptures of the chemically polluted sewerage pipelines and, consequently, soil, water and atmosphere pollution in Nizhnekamsk Municipal District.

The treatment facilities of the Complex are unique in terms of economic impact. During the year they will allow reducing the financial expenditures of the enterprise by eliminating constant consumption of fresh water from the Kama River in addition to those payments that the Company would have had to inevitably spend on implementing environmental activities in case of discharging all waste water to natural water bodies.

This is not the first environmental award of the Company. In 2009 TANECO was named the winner of the VI-th All-Russian "National Environmental Award" contest in the nomination "Ecology of the City" for elaboration of the integrated sanitary protection zone project of the Nizhnekamsk industrial hub. In 2010 the Company was awarded the first place in the republican "ECOleader" contest in the nomination "For implementation of technologies for collection and processing of secondary resources, energy saving and environmentally efficient technologies" among companies of all-Russian significance. In 2012 "TANEKO was recognized as one of the top 100 enterprises of Russia in ecology and environmental management.
