In this case, Baosteel Special Steel enjoys the most advanced massive supply capability of titanium coil for desalination equipment in China.

Desalination is to produce fresh water by sea water desalination. It is the sourcing increment technology making use of water resource, increasing total amount of fresh water while not affected by space and weather. With the increasingly severeness of global water resource crisis, seawater desalination is one of the best world recognized solution to solve fresh water crisis. Nowadays, seawater desalination industry has pervaded over 120 countries and regions world widely.

With light weight, high strength, excellent heat exchange and heat resistance, high reliability and good anti-corrosion to Cl especially, Ti is the first choice for heat exchanger of seawater desalination equipment. Since 1960s, Baosteel Special Steel has engaged in R & D of relevant materials. In 2006, July., with the start-up of Baosteel Special Steel Alloyed Strip Project to mainly produce market-shorted Ti & Ti-alloy, super-alloy, and nickel-based anti-corrosion alloyed wide strip products, it has become the only whole process special alloy strip production line in China. In the end of 2010, the first cold rolled industrial Ti coil was launched; In Oct., 2011, the first commercial contract of cold rolled Ti coil was signed to create conditions to produce such high end products.

Cold rolled Ti coil for seawater desalination is highly demanding for property and surface quality with strict requirements on process control, equipment, process and operation, etc. Since alloy strip line shall produce grades other than Ti & Ti alloy, the frequent grade shift is more challenging for quality control. In order to stabilize the quality of industrial pure Ti coil, Baosteel Special Steel has formulated the quality control standard on each details of process, operation method and equipment maintenance applicable to pure Ti cold rolled production referred to automobile O5 plate surface quality standard, so as to produce without any surface defects.
