OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2012. Ukraine is studying the experience of other countries on the construction above-ground subway, this time - the American example of the construction of the subway. This was stated by the vice Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov.

"Given the price and the quality, it is common to all Ukrainian cities, which have subway or are planning to build it the above-ground subway is more profitable from an economic point of view, as well as easier and more efficient to operate, - Borys Kolesnikov said. - The only question that we are interested in Washington - is the functioning of the subway in heavy snow".

"With regard to the protection of snow - we already have an understanding of how to do it. It is very important to take into account all the comments of American experts. U.S. Consulting companies’ services in terms of protection from the snow will be very useful for us" - Borys Kolesnikov said.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine said that now the specialists worked out the construction above-ground subway in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk. "Where there are no historic buildings, not in the historical center of the city - there is no sense to go under the ground, because it is in 2.5 times cheaper to build in open way" - he said, noting that the above-ground subway especially profitable to build in the capital, Kharkiv and Dnepropetrovsk. In Donetsk, it is already under design; Lviv will also need the above-ground subway in the context of preparations for the Olympics, and Odessa - given the difficulties in the areas of geology.

"In fact, for 1 km the under-ground subway we can build 3 km of the above-ground subway. That is, today, every big city can use this experience", - Borys Kolesnikov said.

According to the vice Prime Minister, during the construction of the above-ground subway will be used products of domestic manufacturers at most. "We can use products such as steel and Ukrainian engineering for building the above-ground subway. It will use the maximum amount of materials of Ukrainian origin" - he said.
