Traffic Grew 5-Fold on MegaFon Network during APEC Summit
OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2012. Five-fold growth of packet traffic and three-fold growth of voice traffic on MegaFon's network was registered in the place where main events of the APEC Summit 2012 were held – in the Bay Ajax on the Russkiy Island. Quality, reliability and availability of mobile communication on the Russkiy Island was provided by network of terrestrial communication elements, as well as by six mobile base stations.
Packet traffic grew 5-fold up to 60 Gb on MegaFon's 3G network in the Ajax Bay on Russkiy Island. Voice traffic tripled up to 2800 Erlang/day herewith. Campuses of the Dalniyvostochniy Federal University are situated in the Ajax Bay where main events of the summit are held. Right in here MegaFon rolled out its own network of communication elements.
What is more, MegaFon utilized network made of 6 mobile base stations (MBTS) for reliability and quality of the mobile communication during APEC 2012 Summit on the Russkiy Island as well as in Vladivostok and along the motorway М60 'Ussuri'. They provide coverage for both 2G and 3G networks. The complex also includes system of satellite communication which makes it possible for the station to operate in any place. Pull-out telescopic mast rises antennas to a 12-meter height what provides coverage on the significant territory. Mast device maintains working capacity when the wind speed is 10 m/s and outside temperature is from -40 up to +50 degrees Celcius. One MBTS can serve up to 300 subscribers due to built-in diesel-generators; time of the autonomous operation is as long as 7 days.
Priority in the use of MBTS is voice traffic transmission. Use of these complexes significantly improved reliability of the mobile communication in the hard-to-reach places for coverage. Besides, MegaFon provided roaming on its network for subscribers of other mobile operators. It was possible to use MegaFon's rolled-out infrastructure on the Russkiy Island and in other places where summits events were held for provision of uninterrupted communication for other operators.
'This is another step in our company's complex program of preparation and holding APEC 2012 Summit, — Alexandr Usov, Director of Primorie Division of the FEB of MegaFon OJSC, commented. 'We aimed at best service quality as well as demonstration of the latest accomplishments in telecommunications to the participants of the summit and residents of the Primorie Territory.
