OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2012. POSCO recently started to prevent illegal forgery of steel product test certificates, proactively stepping forward to prevent damage to client companies, reported the press-centre of POSCO.

POSCO is providing a search service to view original copies of product test certificates at its internet website (www.steel-n.com) which is accessible without creating an account. Also, the Korea Iron & Steel Association is operating a hotline for inadequate steel material reports (02-559-3544), offering report rewards depending on the case, of up to 10 million KRW.

This resulted from illegal distribution and sales of steel sellers taking low-cost overseas products and selling them as POSCO products for profit margins. These activities have increased as steel products have become excess in supply, and the domestic steel market has entered into a long-term recession. In the past two months of monitoring, POSCO has found and is investigating four cases of illegal forgery of product certificates.

POSCO will improve related systems while strengthening efforts to reestablish a sense of ethics in steel industry personnel, and proactively prevent and eliminate illegal activities to secure the safety of steel product usage and to form a clean distribution market.
